Between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, travel a winding road in the High Atlas mountains, with breathtaking landscapes of mountains of all colors, picturesque villages, green palm groves and century-old Kasbahs.

=> The Tizi n’Tichka pass: the highest point of the road between Marrakech and Ouarzazate culminating at 2260m. The panorama is dazzling. If you are lucky, the mountain peaks will be snow-capped offering a beautiful contrast.

=> Ksar Ait Benheddou: This ancient fortress listed as World Heritage by Unesco is a MUST. The location of several Hollywood films, this site will take you on a journey into the imagination. Plan at least half a day for a guided tour and take the time to have lunch on a beautiful terrace overlooking the valley.

ROUTE FROM OUARZAZATE TO MERZOUGA BY CAR

The road between Ouarzazate and the Dades gorges is called the road of the 1000 kasbahs. An excellent circuit for a road trip dotted with traditional villages, oases, gorges and you guessed it… kasbahs. Take the time to admire the beauty of the region by spending the night in the villages before continuing the long journey to the Merzouga desert.

=> Palmeraie and Kasbah of Skoura: An oasis of 50km² of labyrinths of palm, olive and almond trees in the middle of the desert, the palm plantation of Skoura is an enchanting place. Spend the night there to visit the palm grove, the superb kasbah and meet the locals.

=> Valley of the roses: Along the M’Goun river, you will cross the valley of the Damascus roses by car, whose flowering period extends from April to June. A “Moussem” rose festival is organized each year in May. It's time to take a shopping break to stock up on all kinds of local products made from roses, almonds, figs and all kinds of essential oils.

=> Dades Gorges: The roadtrip continues along the Dades river. The landscapes on this road are beautiful. Of course, Ksars and kasbahs dot the path. Several hiking trails allow visitors to discover the fabulous rock formations, palm groves and villages in the region.

=> Tinghir palm grove: The Mellah district of Tinghir village is the ideal place to stock up on supplies. Do not miss the spectacular view from the top of the Kasbah Glaoui and the visit of the impressive irrigation system of the palm grove!

Toudra Gorges: The Toudra Gorges are very popular with hikers but also by climbing enthusiasts. A refreshing break to take during this road trip.

=> Village of Imilchil : A Berber wedding festival is held there every year during the month of October, the opportunity to live an extraordinary cultural experience in Morocco.

=> Merzouga and Erg Chebbi: You have arrived in the village of Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Most hotels offer camel trips to the famous Erg Chebbi sand dunes, and even the opportunity to stay overnight in bivouacs in the desert. An experience not to be missed under any circumstances!
